How are the teams grouped in the UEFA European Championship?

In the UEFA European Championship, the teams are grouped based on their performance in the qualifying rounds. The 24 teams that have qualified for the tournament are divided into six groups of four teams each. The groups are determined through a draw that takes place before the start of the tournament.

The teams are seeded into four pots based on their UEFA national team coefficients. Pot 1 consists of the highestranked teams, Pot 2 the next highest, and so on. One team from each pot is drawn into each group, ensuring a balanced distribution of strong and weak teams across all groups.

The group stage matches are played in a roundrobin format, with each team playing against the other three teams in their group. The top two teams from each group, along with the four best thirdplaced teams, advance to the knockout stage of the tournament.
